Central Florida has a richly varied population of native birds, plus a large number of migratory species. You can do your bird spotting out in the country, alongside a lake, or you can relax on a bench in the city square. There are birds everywhere in Marion County. Yet some sites in Marion County have earned special recognition from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for truly outstanding birding, appearing on the organization’s Great Florida Birding Trail of premier parks for avian observation. These acclaimed birding destinations at the Salt Springs portion of the Ocala National Forest, Silver River State Park and Sunnyhill Restoration area, among others, are where you just might spot anything from a treasured scrub jay to a majestic bald eagle. Further proof that the communities of Marion County continue to exhibit great natural attraction. |
