Annual Ride of the Living Dead @ Landbridge Trailhead

Welcome to the 2017 Ride of the Living Dead!! We are back this year with our annual charity mountain bike ride. This year’s ride will start at the Land Bridge Trailhead.

Join us for a fun ride through the beautiful trails of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenways.

This year’s ROLD is presented by Greenway Bicycles, Ocala Bicycle Center and Florida Greenways & Trails Foundation. All profits from this ride are donated to LOCAL Marion County charities including Pay It Forward Outreach.

The ROLD is not a race, but a ride through the scenic Santos Trail system. We will have SAG stops along the route with drinks and snacks. But, as with any ride, please be prepared with hydration, nutrition, and bicycle repair supplies.

You are welcome to ride any distance other than the designated route (approx 50 miles). Lunch will be provided at the Land Bridge Trailhead from 12-2 pm.

Costumes are welcome and highly encouraged! Please come to the registration area at 8:30am for our costume contest.

Registration is available here on Eventbrite, at Greenway Bicycle, Ocala Bicycle Center, or the day of the event.

Nature Hike with David | Florida State Parks

Take a guided hike on the 3rd Saturday of each month, September through May, and learn about the flora and fauna of North Central Florida. David Rakes is an experienced and knowledgeable naturalist with a broad understanding of the natural communities surrounding the Silver River. Each hike will start from a different location in the park and will focus on different plants. You may receive the opportunity to view wildlife such as Florida white-tailed deer, Sherman’s fox squirrel, Eastern gopher tortoises, and more.

Florida Safari at Silver Springs State Park @ Silver Springs State Park

On the first Sunday of every month join park staff for a tram tour of the longleaf pine forest. Learn about the park’s land management practices and how we care for our natural resources. Wildlife sightings are common but not guaranteed. Possible fauna seen during this program include white-tailed deer, Gopher Tortoise, Sherman’s fox squirrel, and wild turkey.

Along the way the tram will stop so participants can take a short guided walk on the swamp trail. A park ranger will lead visitors down the boardwalk to the Silver River. After the hike the tram will return to the main entrance.

Interpretive Nature Walks at Silver Springs Conservation Area @ Silver Springs Conservation Area

Adult participants should be in good health and able to leisurely walk with rest stops for up to 2-3 hours. Group meets at 8:30 a.m. at Brick City Adventure Park to travel to walk location, or you can meet at the designated park. Fee is $2 per person. Transportation is available but van space is limited to 10 people and must be requested upon signup.

Sangria 5K Dash at Island Grove Winery @ Island Grove Winery

Join us for our 4th Annual Island Grove Wine Company Fall Festival and our 2nd Annual Sangria 5K Dash on Saturday,  Nov 11, 2017. The main festival will be at our winery and at our beautiful on-property authentic cracker house. In the yard of the house, shaded by many hundred year old oaks, we will have vendors and activities along with winery tours and wine tastings!

The 2nd Annual Sangria 5K Dash will start at 8am and benefit the First Responders in our community – The Cross Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. The race will begin and end at our historic 1897 cracker house, taking you through our beautiful Florida property and blueberry plantation.

With your registration, you will receive a Sangria 5K Dash Dry Zone shirt, a celebratory glass of sangria for those 21 and over (Gatorade for those younger) and an outrageous Custom Sangria 5k Dash medal (see below)!

SILVER SPRINGS STATE PARK – Race is being held at the beautiful Silver Springs State Park.  Marked trails will guide you through the race which you may choose to run, walk or stroll the marked trails.  This is the 4th Annual Race and is a fundraiser in the park and for the park, all monies stay local and will be used to help enhance and improve the visitor’s experience.  Sponsored by the Friends of Silver Springs State Park  Enter through the Silver Springs Entrance, off of Silver Springs Blvd (S.R. 40) and east of S.R. 35. Come enjoy local and visiting musicians perform acoustic music in a scenic area near the springs. Instruments usually include a banjo, guitar, fiddle, upright bass, and accordion. They may vary from month to month. Feel free to bring your own instrument and join in or just listen and enjoy. Hand claps and foot taps welcome!
