OCALA, Fla. (July 27, 2018) – The Discovery Center’s newest exhibit, Get in the Game, will open to the public Saturday, Aug. 11 and will be on display through Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Ave.

Get in the Game is an interactive exhibit, educating guests on the science behind their favorite childhood games. This exhibit will feature larger than life games like Battleship, giant Tinker Toy blocks, Candy Land and even a seven-foot long Lite Brite.

A special grand opening event will be held Saturday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature face painting, demonstrations by the Ocala Soap Box Derby, refreshments and more. Admission to this event is $6 per person or $20 for a family of four.

The exhibit is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $6 per person or $20 for a family of four.

Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series – Dumpstaphunk @ Webb Field - Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Complex

Dumpstaphunk: Critically acclaimed funk band from New Orleans. Opening act is Locochino. The nonprofit spotlight organization will be Ocali Storytelling Guild.

The Marion Cultural Alliance (MCA), in partnership with the City of Ocala, is excited to unveil the the lineup for the 2018 Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series. The series is sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national funder of creative placemaking that empowers communities to inject new life into underused public spaces. Through free, outdoor concerts, the Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series will present ten free, family-friendly concerts to the public this summer.

The Levitt AMP Ocala Music Series will take place at Webb Field at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Complex located at 1510 NW Fourth St. Concerts will take place every Friday, June 15 through Aug. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn setting. Gates open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.

This event will feature craft and non-profit booths, food trucks, novelty food vendors, in addition to beer and wine, which will be available for purchase. The Summer Break Spot will provide free dinners for those ages 18 and under. Each concert will also spotlight a local non-profit organization, who will conduct a special activity during the event’s intermission.

“This free concert series is a great opportunity for everyone to gather on the big green lawn at Webb Field,” said Jaye Baillie, Executive Director, Marion Cultural Alliance. “During last year’s series, we saw young and old dancing, swaying and singing side by side.”

The 2018 Levitt AMP Music Series is sponsored by 98.5 KTK, the David and Lisa Midgett Foundation, Mojo’s Grill and Catering, Kona Ice Ocala, Tri-Eagle Sales, Island Grove Winery and Oniram Productions.

The Ocala Downtown Market (ODM) is the place where a diverse array of farmers, artisans, craftspeople, and food trucks come together to sell their products to customers from Ocala, Marion County, and beyond. A true destination location, ODM is set just blocks off of the Ocala Downtown Square, in a beautiful open-air Market Pavilion. Besides permanent roof cover, the facility also includes large overhead fans, restrooms, a nearby ATM, and water fountains.

Vendors have a variety of booth choices to choose from, including both indoor and outdoor, booths with water and/or electric, and more!

The Market is held on Fridays from 3pm until 7pm and Saturdays from 9am until 2pm. It is the vision of the City of Ocala (which owns the facility) and Ocala Downtown Market, Inc. to see the Market add additional days in the future. This expansion in the number of days and hours the Market is open is expected to occur gradually, over the span of a few years.
