Florida International Teaching Zoo
The Florida International Teaching Zoo has a long history with Marion County, first opening in 1990 as the Marion Nature Park in Belleview at the Markets of Marion, and remaining there until 2005. Accredited by the Zoological Association of America, the zoo has a twenty year history of educating professional zoo animal caregivers. Graduates are employed in AZA/ZAA zoos, wildlife and higher educational institutions. Our diverse collection is designed to give students practical experience with classes of animals they will encounter in their future careers. We are known for our breeding successes with the Jaguar, African Patas monkeys, and the Nene geese, the fourth most endangered bird in North America.
