Oktoberfest
Raise your stein, put on your lederhosen, and celebrate Oktoberfest in Ocala/Marion county, FL!
Oktoberfest brings a unique blend of culture, cuisine, and camaraderie to communities all over the world every fall, including right here in Ocala/Marion County. Originating in Munich, Germany, this annual festival has become a symbol of merriment, where people gather to enjoy German fare, steins of flavorful beer, and revel in lively music and games.
What is the History of Oktoberfest?
After expanding its territory and thus multiplying its population with the surrounding peoples, the king of Bavaria was looking for a way to unite his country under one flag when an idea struck him! His upcoming marriage to Therese Charlotte Luise of Saxe-Hildburghausen would call for a celebration. Instead of keeping this event to the royal party, the king made it a five-day festival that featured horse racing and public gatherings. This 1810 festival was dubbed the first Oktoberfest.
The event turned into an annual tradition, and over the years, the more iconic aspects of the festival started to form. As the largest federal state of Germany, Bavaria's Oktoberfest became an all-out celebration of German heritage.
Over time, this event found its way to the United States. In Ocala/Marion County, we've taken these traditions and added our own little twists to them, making them more distinctive to our community and oh so Floridian. Don’t miss these exciting Oktoberfest events!
