Welcome to the International Jazz, Art & Poetry Festival Ocala – Tribute to Dizzy Gillespie & Alice Coltrane! The fourth installment of OSO’s International Jazz, Art & Poetry Festival will honor two of America’s greatest jazz icons, Dizzy Gillespie & Alice Coltrane. This event marks the first fundraising effort in 2026 by Ocala Steel Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) organization. Funds raised from the events will support our ongoing mission to provide free music literacy, acquire new instruments, and sustain our programs at St Matthews Lutheran Church, 3453 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470
About Dizzy Gillespie:
John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, educator and singer. He was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuosic style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic and rhythmic complexity previously unheard in jazz.
About Alice Coltrane:
Alice Lucille Coltrane, also known as Swamini Turiyasangitananda or simply Turiya, was an American jazz musician, composer, bandleader, and Hindu spiritual leader.
