The event’s mission is to connect passion for cycling and art, establish a signature event that showcases Ocala/Marion County to the region, state, and nation, promote safe cycling safety and fitness, and to raise awareness and support for Marion Cultural Alliance. The Ride highlights the best assets of Ocala/Marion County its historic downtown and stunning landscapes and farms. The cyclists travel through the unparalleled natural beauty of horse country, with its start and finish at MCA's Brick City Center for the Arts in historic downtown Ocala, cyclists have an experience that sets Ride for the Arts apart from all other cycling events.
MCA’s Ride for the Arts Gran Fondo is one of the first in Florida. Gran Fondo’s are enthusiastically sought after by cyclists, due to the competitive timed segments.
The event has routes for all levels of ability. Cyclists may choose from a 15 mile family friendly Piccolo, a 40 mile Medio or the Gran Fondo, which is 70 miles in length. The event begins in historic downtown with staggered starts for each group starting with the Gran Fondo, then Medio, followed by the Picolo. The Ocala Police Department escorts the Gran Fondo and Medio cyclists. An experienced cyclist escorts the Piccolo.
The routes head north and are designed to showcase the beauty of our county, winding through horse country. The timed segments are located on hills adding to the challenge. Fullly stocked SAG stops provide refreshment and encouragement from the volunteers ringing cow bells.
Upon completion of the Ride, cyclists enjoy a catered lunch on The Brick City Center for the Arts courtyard, converted into a Beer Garden. While waiting for the Awards Ceremony, cyclists and their families can shop in the Vendor Village and in Downtown Ocala.
Our event features $2,000 in cash awards.
