Walk to End Alzheimer's
- Date: 09/26/20
- Location: Virtual
- Time: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® will be different this year. Although communities can’t join together for a large in-person event due to the pandemic, participants will still walk in their neighborhoods. We will continue to engage constituents from across the country and encourage them to join the world’s largest fundraiser to fight the disease, which, this year, will take place everywhere.
It’s important to clearly communicate that Walk is not taking a year off or going completely virtual. While some of the Walk-day experience will be held online, avoid saying that Walk is virtual this year, as it suggests we are not walking in communities.
To assist you in communicating with constituents about these changes, we’ve compiled new messaging developed specifically for this year’s event.
2020 event description
This year, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is everywhere — on every sidewalk, trail and track. And although the world may look a little different right now, one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to the fight against Alzheimer’s.
Your health and safety are our top priorities. Walk to End Alzheimer's won't be a large in-person gathering this year — instead, we invite you to walk in your neighborhood in small teams* of friends and family while others in your community do the same. Because we’re all walking and fundraising for the same thing: a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
*All participants should follow CDC guidelines and local health recommendations when deciding to walk with those outside of their household.
The new Walk day
This year, the Association Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is online, on your street and in your community.
Your health and safety are our top priorities. This year’s event won’t be a large in-person gathering, but we are still walking — and bringing you new and exciting ways to experience the event.

Supplemental messages to create urgency
Alzheimer’s isn’t waiting. Neither are you.
No matter where you are, you can walk.
Because this year’s ad campaign is centered around the new event format, please focus on assets highlighting what the Walk experience looks like now. Language around the First Survivor should not be the focus of primary recruitment messaging.
A detailed FAQ will be available on the Participant Center and on alz.org/walk in the coming weeks. This will help address more specific questions that participants may have about the new format and Walk-day experience.
