Marion County Celebrates Tourism’s Impact During 2026 National Travel and Tourism Week
OCALA/MARION COUNTY, Fla. — The Marion County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed May 3–9, 2026, as National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) in Ocala/Marion County, recognizing tourism’s vital role in supporting the local economy and enhancing quality of life for residents.
Tourism remains a cornerstone of Marion County’s economy, supporting more than 8,600 jobs and generating nearly $1 billion in local economic impact, according to the latest tourism research (conducted from October 2024-September 2025). More than 1.4 million visitors spend an estimated $664 million annually, helping offset more than $453 in household taxes. Across Florida, tourism revenue helps eliminate the need for a state income tax.
“While we often think of tourism as just visitors passing through, it provides many tangible benefits to our entire community, “said Loretta Shaffer, Marion County Tourist Development Director. “From the fields our kids play on to the places that tell our story, visitor spending helps create and support the places we all enjoy. I invite residents to stop by the Visitor Center this week and rediscover everything there is to experience right here at home.”
Tourism investment continues to shape the community in visible ways—from new turf fields and fiber installation at the Rotary Sportsplex to gateway signage along Interstate 75 that welcomes travelers and residents home. The VCB also partners on legacy projects like the Walk of Champions in downtown Ocala and supports the preservation of Fort King National Historic Landmark, connecting visitors and residents to the area’s history and identity.
In celebration of NTTW, the VCB is launching its first online store at Shop.OcalaMarion.com, giving visitors and residents a new way to show their Ocala/Marion County pride. The VCB will also announce the winner of its annual postcard contest, which drew 28 submissions and eight finalists, with the winning design to be printed and available free of charge at the Ocala/Marion County Visitor Center in downtown Ocala.
