The Ocala/Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau is proud to announce Ocala/Marion County Dining Days happening May 13-20, 2015.
Whether you are ready to feast on some old favorites or try some delightful new dishes, the weeklong event has a little something for everyone. For one week, visitors and residents alike are invited to experience the culinary flavors of some of Marion County’s best loved restaurants. With 18 participating restaurants offering a variety of cuisines, and special menus featuring items that are $7, $17, and $27, no coupons or tickets are needed, you only need your appetite.
An estimated 39 million U.S. leisure travelers choose a destination based upon its culinary scene with about the same number of visitors seeking out food based activities per the 2015 report that was conducted by the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance (OCTA), a non-profit organization that focuses on food and beverage tourism development worldwide. Additionally, the 2013 American Culinary Traveler Report that was conducted by Mandala Research further showed that the percentage of U.S. leisure travelers who travel to learn about and enjoy unique culinary opportunities and experiences grew from 40% to 51% between 2006 and 2013.
“Culinary tourism helps to tell the story of a destination’s history, culture, and people. Dining Days is a celebration of all of the food found right here in our area, as well as the farmers and chefs who bring it to our tables,” Loretta Shaffer, CDME, Executive Director, Ocala/Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau. “We have a vibrant food and dining scene, and we’re excited to showcase it during Dining Days by offering an entire week of delicious discounted dining at some of Ocala/Marion County’s finest restaurants.”
Culinary Tourism is one of the fastest growing segments in the tourism industry and one that Marion County is striving to tap into. Major destinations such as New York, NY; Asheville, NC; Portland, OR; Palm Springs, FL; Charleston, SC; Denver, CO; Nashville, TN; Memphis, TN; Philadelphia, PA; Seattle, WA; and Atlanta, GA are creating major promotional campaigns and events revolving specifically around their food and beverage experiences. Ocala/Marion County Dining Days will allow us to further underscore our authentic and unique culinary offerings while providing a marketing campaign that targets market segments through advanced online and social media platforms. This will allow us to empower our visitors to share their culinary experiences with friends and strangers around the world.
After a day of endless adventures in Ocala/Marion County, we invite you to grab some friends, and select any number of the participating restaurants to enjoy lunch or dinner from one of the fixed price menus featured on www.ocalamarion.com/diningdays and help us celebrate Ocala/Marion Country’s distinctive culinary culture.
